A Meta-Analysis of the Effect of Binge Drinking on the Oral Microbiome
A meta-analysis is the process of summarizing data and analyzing data from multiple studies that support or oppose a research hypothesis. The result of the analysis is a pooled estimate, which is often given in odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals. The authors of a new study found that people who drink alcohol have different oral microbiotas than nondrinkers. They also tend to have fewer good bacteria, such as Lactobacillales, and higher levels of certain bad bacteria.
